Virtual Tincture Making!

Come and learn how to make herbal tinctures! In this class we will discuss two different methods of making tinctures: the folk method and the weight to volume method. Tinctures are a form of herbal medicine that uses alcohol as a way to extract the medicine from either dry or fresh herbs. Knowing what kinds of alcohol to use, proper ratios & storage, dried versus fresh herbs and the difference between an internal and external preparation is important! In this class we will focus on alcohol tinctures to be taken internally and I will touch briefly on liniments (external preparation of a tincture) and glycerine-based formulas (tinctures that are made without alcohol). You don't need any prior herbal knowledge to take this class and we will talk about a few herbs to help get you going if you aren't sure where to start (or if you have some herbs you don't know what to do with, bring those!).

This will be part lecture and part make-along! If you'd like to make a tincture while in class, you will need the following items:

A glass jar with a lid (like a Ball jar, whatever size you want, I'd recommend starting small like 4-8 ounces), whatever herb you would like to tincture (enough to be able to fill the jar, if dried ½-3/4 of the way full, if fresh, then enough to fill the jar), and either vodka, everclear or brandy (have some honey on hand if you would like to make an elixir instead or if you'd like it to be alcohol-free, you can use apple cider vinegar).

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like help getting material together before class! There are no refunds for this class and it will be held on Zoom. You must purchase tickets on Eventbrite to receive the Zoom link, purchase tickets here for $20
